All the Way it Feels' is out today - listen here or watch the video here! A song about patience and impatience, hope, and acceptance.
I swear, I'm not always this serious, but just indulge me. And whatever you do, don't take any of this as advice; I'm floundering and just happened to write a song about it.
The more I've willed or tried to force things, the less life budges, the slower things seem to progress in the way you are so desperate for them to – the more I suffer. As I've learned to practice patience and trust things to happen as they do, the more I've found success, and enjoyed the getting there. Feeling ready for something – love, a new job, a big move, or any big change really – and realizing that you don't have the power to make it happen, that you don't get to control your own life in that way, is a hard pill to swallow. No matter how hard you try to assert control, life has a funny, and often tragic, way of reminding us that we can only do so much. And yet, in my experience, there are also moments when you release control and accept whatever life has for you, and life has a funny and often beautiful way of reminding us to fucking relax, it's going to be okay.
‘All the Way it Feels’ was written in the moment between releasing control and everything being okay. Between wanting something to happen in a certain way on a certain timeline and accepting things as they are. A statement of intent, an invitation for whatever comes next.
To be more specific, this song is about love, openness and being ready for commitment. It's about seeing love for what it is and letting the world know that you’re available (without coming across too desperate, please, please please). But it is also a song that was written in frustration. Frustration with failed relationships, with dating, with loneliness and isolation – and fear that having that one person might not be something I get to do.
Perhaps predictably, it was during this moment that I met Ellen, and it is only with hindsight and a baby on the way that I can say how it worked for me. It is also in hindsight that I can see how much I suffered through it. I wish I could have enjoyed it more, not pushed so hard.
And with this long-winded attempt to tell you what ‘All the Way it Feels’ is about, I guess go listen to it and decide for yourself. It's out today, find it wherever you listen to music.

P.S. Making music is fun. One of my favourite parts is bringing a new song to the band and hearing their interpretations of things – seeing what sparkles each person has to throw around. One of my favourite moments from our week of recording with Josh Van Tassel was the moment Connor brought out the riff that would eventually make ‘All the Way it Feels’ the song it is. Humble as ever, Connor played it for us after his sincere preamble of "I don't mind if you don't like it," and here it is, outshining the rest of us, defining and melodic. In Josh's opinion, it gives the song a bit of Duran Duran.
